Jesus We Can Meet through the Atonement Day Ordinance

2

[Leviticus 16 : 21]

He is to lay both hands on the head of the live goat and confess over it all the wickedness and rebellion of the Israelites - all their sins - and put them on the goat¡¯s head.

He shall send the goat away into the wilderness in the care of someone appointed for the task.

3

The Israelites leaving Egypt and going to Canaan lived in the wilderness for a long time,

and God was present at the tabernacle and was with the Israelites.

The tabernacle was a special place where God came.

4

The Israelites were forgiven for their sins through the tabernacle.

The sinners and the unclean came and offered sacrifices.

God has set a specific day in the year as the day of atonement to forgive all their sins.

5

To do this, the high priest must cleanse the whole body by washing.

Then he wears linen clothes instead of the fancy clothes he usually wears.

It is for the high priest to show humility as one who stands before God.

6

First, the high priest must offer a young bull as a sin offering to atone for the sins of himself and

his household. Even though he is a high priest, he must cleanse himself first by offering

sacrifices because he is a sinner before God.

7

Then they receive the two male goats brought by the people.

He casts lots to decide which goats to be sacrificed and which goats to send out into the

wilderness. The goats to be sent out into the wilderness are called 'for Azazel'.

8

No one could normally enter the most holy of the tabernacle.

On the day designated as the Day of Atonement, only the high priest was allowed to enter on

behalf of all Israel. In the Most Holy Place, there is the ark, and the atonement place that covers it.

9

The place of atonement is made of pure gold plates, with two angels facing each other and

covering the place with wings. This atonement place was a holy place where God Himself

came to meet humans and was a special place for forgiveness of sins.

10

Before the high priest enters the Holy place, he must first burn incense so that the smoke fills the

Holy place. It is so that the atonement place is not visible. The reason is that even though

he was a high priest, he could die if he saw the Atonement Place where God was present.

11

When the Atonement Place is full of smoke and cannot be seen, the High Priest enters the

Most Holy. First, the high priest wetted his hand with the bull's blood that he offered and

sprinkled it on the number of times set by God.

12

Then he made the people clean from sin by sprinkling in the same way the blood of the

goats that the people offered to atone for their own sins.

13

After performing the Most Holy Place ordinance, the high priest came to the

Holy Place and performed the same cleansing ceremony.

And he put blood on the horns of the altar in the courtyard of the tabernacle.

He took blood with his finger and sprinkled it seven times on the altar.

In this way, the altar was also purified.

14

After the high priest has cleansed all parts of the tabernacle, the final ordinance proceeds.

He lays his hands on the goat's head for Azazel.

All the sins of the Israelites are handed over to the goat.

15

Then the goat for Azazel was sent out by man's hand into the wilderness,

carrying all the sins of the Israelites on his behalf, leaving the wilderness and never coming back.

The Israelites let their sins go away and be forgiven.

16

After the goat for Azazel leaves, the high priest offers a final sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins.

He offered sacrifices for his sins and burnt offerings for his people to God.

In this way, the ceremony for washing away the sins of himself and the people ended.

17

As New Testament saints, we can receive forgiveness of sins without performing the same

ordinances as the Old Testament saints.

Jesus, our high priest, forgave all our sins at once.

Jesus crucified all our sins like a goat for Azazel.

Because Jesus took all our sins and died instead, all our sins were forgiven at once forever.

Receiving this grace of forgiveness of sins, we must be those who seek the help of the

Holy Spirit to keep away from sins and maintain the purity of God's children.
