David
in the Trap of Lies
|
2
|
|
[1 Samuel 27:11]
¡°He
did not leave a man or woman alive to be brought to Gath, for he thought,
¡°They
might inform on us and say, ¡®This is what David did.¡¯¡±
And such was his
practice as long as he lived in Philistine territory.¡±
|
3
|
|
David was always confident even
though he was chased by Saul.
He relied on God in any situation and
managed to overcome his difficulties by faith.
|
4
|
|
David had the opportunity to kill
Saul twice, who was trying to kill him.
But each time David saved Saul. He
showed us a true believer who entrusted
everything to God.
|
5
|
|
On the other hand, however, he was
also afraid of the continued threat of Saul.
It seemed that King Saul would find
him no matter where he would hide in Israel.
He felt that he had no more shelter
in the land of Israel.
So David decided to exile to the Philistine
country so that Saul could not harm him.
|
6
|
|
David left the land of Israel with
600 servants and his family and went to Achish king of Gath.
Gath was one of the five Philistine
cities, with Achish ruled as king.
Achish welcomed his soldiers,
thinking it was great luck to have a valiant man like David
as his servant.
|
7
|
|
The news that David left Israel and
went to Gath was reported to King Saul.
When Saul heard that David had left
Israel, he stopped looking to kill David.
|
8
|
|
David knew that King Achish had
confidence in him and made a request to him.
¡°I don't think it's polite for us to
stay together in this king's city.
Please allow us to live in a small
castle.¡± King Achish thought that David had become
his servant and gave him a local city
called Ziklag at his request.
|
9
|
|
While staying at Ziklag of the
Philistines, David wanted to help his country, Israel.
David took his soldiers and attacked
the Geshurites, south of the Philistines,
as well as the Girzites and the
Amalekites. People in the region had something in common
that bothered Israel and did not get
along. David is fighting on behalf of Israel.
|
10
|
|
David took the spoils he had taken
from the people and went to Gath.
King Achish asked while looking at
the spoils David brought. ¡°Where did you attack today?¡±
|
11
|
|
David said to Achish's question.
¡°Today they attacked the south of the land of Judah.¡±
David made a lie to King Achish.
Because he has to do as if he lives as an enemy with Judas.
|
12
|
|
David did not bring any of the people
from the places he occupied to Gath.
David's soldiers killed none of the
people there.
The reason was that King Achish
should not know that David was fighting on behalf of Israel.
David had to kill more people to hide
what he had helped Israel.
|
13
|
|
Even after that, David attacked the
areas that were afflicting Israel.
And each time he made false reports
to King Achish differently from where he attacked.
David lied and he hid what he was fighting
for Israel.
|
14
|
|
When Achish heard that David attacked
the regions of Israel, he believed in David more.
Achish thought to himself, ¡°This
David is now hated by the Israelites.
He is no longer in a position that he
cannot return to Israel,
and David will serve me as my servant
forever.¡±
|
15
|
|
David was tired of hiding from Saul.
So he did not ask God for will, and he left Israel and fled
to the Philistines. His body was
comfortable because Saul was no longer chasing him.
But while he was there he lived with
lies that God hates.
|
16
|
|
If David had been in Israel, God would have kept it
to the end.
This is because God has already appointed David to
be king of Israel.
David should have had more confidence in God, stayed
in the land of Israel, and endured it.
|
17
|
|
We
often have a difficult heart like David.
Sometimes
we want to give up because it is uncomfortable and difficult to act on the
Word of God. Each time we must remember this event of David, endure to the
end, and overcome it.
Jesus
also said that those who endure to the end receive great blessings.
(Matthew
10:22) ¡°You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands
firm to the end will be saved.¡±
We
must be people of faith who give glory to God by enduring to the end,
believing that Jesus who saved me
will protect me.
