God
Who Helped David in Crisis
|
2
|
|
[1 Samuel 29:4]
But the Philistine
commanders were angry with Achish and said, "Send the man back, that he
may return to the place you assigned him. He must not go with us into battle,
or he will turn against us during the fighting. How better could he regain
his master's favor than by taking the heads of our own men?
|
3
|
|
David
was afraid of Saul and served as a subordinate to Achish, the Philistine king
of Gath.
With
the help of King Achish, David stayed with people with him in a place called
Ziklag.
|
4
|
|
David
had to stand up in the war in order to be recognized by King Achish, but he
could
not
attack his homeland Israel. So he attacked the Philistine castles and Amalek
to get loot.
|
5
|
|
Then
he brought the loot that he had obtained to King Achish.
Each
time David lied that the spoils were obtained from attacking Israel.
I
did it. David hid behind a lie and served as a Philistine soldier under the
trust of King Achish.
|
6
|
|
Soon
afterward, the Philistines were preparing to wage war with Israel.
King
Achish also wanted to go to war with his valiant servant David.
David
was in danger of having to fight a constant war against Israel.
|
7
|
|
David
and King Achish arrived at Aphek, where the Philistines camped.
The
other Philistine kings who had seen David asked King Achish in amazement and
emotional
words. ¡°Why are you bringing these Hebrews here?¡±
|
8
|
|
King
Achish spoke in defense of David. ¡°This is David, the servant of Saul king of
Israel.
It
has been a few years since this David was with me. While he was here he
worked
very
faithfully for the Philistines.¡± King Achish did not know that David was
cheating on him,
so
he defended David to the Philistine commanders.
|
9
|
|
But
the other Philistine kings said angry at Achish.
¡°Send
David back to the castle you gave him. David can't go to battle with us.
David
will surely kill our soldiers to please Saul king of Israel.¡±
|
10
|
|
They
went on to tell them why they couldn't be with David.
¡°You
forgot that the Israelites danced over that man David and sang,
¡°Saul
killed a thousands, and David killed ten thousands¡±!¡±
|
11
|
|
What
the Philistine kings say is the story of a long ago war between the
Philistines and Israel.
At
the time, there was a man in the Philistines named Goliath the giant.
None
of the Israeli army was afraid to fight Goliath and was trembling.
|
12
|
|
At
that time, David, who went there on his father's errand, offers to fight
Goliath.
David
could not stand alone to see Goliath, who spoke insulting words to God.
With
God's help, David defeated the giant Goliath with a slingshot stone,
and
Israel won the war.
|
13
|
|
The
Israeli soldiers who had won the war returned with welcome from the people.
At
that time, as we met Saul and David, the women sang aloud.
¡°The
one Saul killed was a thousands. David is ten thousands.¡± Now the Philistine
kings
are
telling the story of that time, saying that David is absolutely no way.
|
14
|
|
Knowing
that he could no longer go to war with David, Achish called David and said.
¡°I
swear in the name of the Lord you believe in, and you have been loyal to me.
And
I hope you will continue to work in my army. But the other kings of the
Philistines
don't
believe you, so don't make any further troubles and go back quietly.¡±
|
15
|
|
When
David heard that he could no longer participate in this war, David spoke
sadly to Achish.
¡°What
have I done wrong? I have never done anything bad since I came to you.
Please
allow me to fight your enemies too.¡±
|
16
|
|
Achish
again appeased David. ¡°You are as precious to me as an angel sent by God.
But
the other kings of the Philistines say, "David cannot go to war with
us,"
so
you should leave this place early in the morning when it is bright!¡±
Early
the next morning, David and his men left there. Thanks to this,
David
was freed from the crisis of having to fight against Israel.
|
17
|
|
God
helped David, who would become king of Israel in the future.
He
protected David through the Philistine kings, who was in crisis of having to
wage war with his motherland Israel. God helped and protected David in ways
that David could not imagine.
God, who protected David, protects us who believe in Jesus and become
children of God with
the
same love. As God's children, He always helps and protects us when we are
faced with
unbearable
difficulties. You should believe in this, and do not be disappointed in any
difficulties
you
encounter, and be people who seek God's help.
