God Who Helped
David Defeat Amalek
|
2
|
|
[1 Samuel 30:23]
David replied, ¡°No, my
brothers, you must not do that with what the Lord has given us.
He has protected us and
delivered into our hands the raiding party that came against us.
|

|
|
It
was when David served as Achish, the Philistine king of Gath.
Achish
tried to take David out to war against Israel.
David
was stuck in a difficult situation where he had no choice but to wage a war
with Israel.
|
4
|
|
However,
David was able to return without participating in the war against the
opposition of
other
Philistine kings. God protected David, who should become king of Israel in
the future.
David
and his soldiers returned to the ¡°Ziklag,¡± where they lived in three days.
|
5
|
|
However,
the Ziglag Castle where they lived was burned.
The
Amalekites attacked the city while David was away.
They
took David's two wives and all the families of David's men taken captive.
And
they left with the items that were there as loot.
|
6
|
|
When
David's men learned that their family had been taken captive,
David's
men began to cry out loud. The men who were shocked began to blame David.
And
there were some who wanted to stone David to death.
|
7
|
|
David
was also greatly perplexed by the situation. However, in that crisis
situation,
David's
great faith was revealed. David tried to gain the strength that God gave him.
|
8
|
|
David
told Abiathar the priest to bring the ephod.
The
priest Abiathar brought the ¡®ephod¡¯ as David said.
David
began to pray to God how he would act.
|
9
|
|
David
asked God. ¡°Shall we go after those who dragged our family?
Can
we catch up with them?¡± God immediately answered David's prayer.
¡°Go
after them and you will be able to catch up with them.
And
you will be able to save your family.¡± God promised to help David.
|
10
|
|
David
and his 600 men immediately began to pursue the Amalekites,
but
when they reached a place called Besor, a problem arose.
His
200 men were exhausted and could no longer march.
|
11
|
|
David
continued pursuing the Amalekites, leaving 200 exhausted men in Besor.
On
the way to pursue them, David met an Egyptian who had fallen ill and was
abandoned
by the Amalekites. David gave him something to eat, so he was strengthened.
|
12
|
|
The
Egyptians who were favored led David to the Amalekites. David's army fought
and won
the
Amalekites. And they recovered all their families and all their stolen items.
Not
only that, but they also got their flocks and herds.
|
13
|
|
Having
recovered everything, David's party returned to the place where there were
200 men
left
at Besor. Some of David's men were bad. They told David:
¡°These
people didn't go with us, so we don't have to share what we brought.
Only
the wives and children of these people should be returned.¡± Said.
|
14
|
|
David
heard what they said. ¡°My brothers, you shouldn't do that. Jehovah helped us
to
defeat
our enemies and overcome them. Can we do that?
Anyone
who stays and defends our things, or those who went out and fought,
should
share the same.¡±
|
15
|
|
David
made it clear that it was God who overcame them in that war.
He
never confessed that he did not fight well in war.
He
said it was gained from the war God helped them to win,
so
everyone should share it fairly.
|
16
|
|
Returning
to Ziklag, David sent some of the items he had brought as spoils from the
Amalekites
as gifts to the leaders of Judah. And he told them. He said,
¡°I
present you some of the things I have taken from Jehovah's enemies.¡±
In
this way, David shared with the people of Judah the joy that God gave them
victory.
|
17
|
|
Even
when faced with embarrassing big things, David never did what he thought.
He
first prayed for the strength that God gives him. David always remembered
that it was
God
who helped them win the war.
He
did the work of sharing the results of the victory God gave him to all who
participated.
He
also communicated and communicated to others what he had done by God as a
gift.
We,
who have received the great grace of salvation through faith in Jesus,
must
have the same heart of faith as David. You must not be a slave to greed.
We
must have great faith to share with others the good things God has done for
us.
I
hope that all of us who seek the help of the Holy Spirit to have this faith.
