Blessings from Honoring Parents

2

[Proverbs 1:8-9]

Listen, my son, to your father¡¯s instruction and do not forsake your mother¡¯s teaching.

They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.

3

Among the Bibles classified as Bible poetry books, there is the book of Proverbs.

Most of the book of Proverbs was written by King Solomon,

who received great wisdom from God.

4

King Solomon tells us what the purpose of writing the book of Proverbs is:

¡°It is the writing of this book that leads the reader to wisdom and instruction,

to the understanding of discreet teachings, to a discipline and to a wise life, to live a righteous, upright, upright life, and to the stupid ones, self-discipline.

It is to give young people experiential knowledge and the ability to realize what is right.

5

The book of Proverbs, which consists of 31 chapters in total, teaches how to live wisely

in each chapter. Anyone who reads the words of the book of Proverbs and puts them into

practice will lead to a wise life on this earth,

and it is like a guide to the blessings of what he does well.

6

Today is Parents' Sunday to thank for your parents' grace.

The book of Proverbs also records what children should do to their parents.

We want to learn together how the book of Proverbs instructs children to serve their parents.

7

First is Proverbs 1:8. Let¡¯s read it together.

¡°Listen, my son, to your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching.¡±

(Proverbs 1:8)

These words tell us to listen carefully to your father's admonition, or instruction,

and not to take your mother's teaching lightly, but to hold onto it.

8

My parents are the ones who love me the most in this world.

Be a person who values the right teachings your parents tell you, the Bible says.

The Bible continues to tell you how blessed those who are taught by their parents are worthy.

9

¡°They will be a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.¡±

(Proverbs 1:9)

What does it mean to wear a beautiful crown on your head and a gold necklace on your neck?

It means that listening to your parents' teachings is a childlike attitude and a blessed behavior. Furthermore, it means that what he is doing is going well and that he is very successful.

God has promised that those who obey their parents will do well on earth.

10

Another part talks about how to do it more specifically. Proverbs 6:20 says:

¡°My son, keep your father's commands and do not forsake your mother's teaching.

Bind them upon your heart forever; fasten them around your neck.¡± (Proverbs 6:20-21)

The book of Proverbs tells us to keep the right teachings of our parents in mind and

remember not to forget them as if they were tied to our neck.

11

The Bible tells us that those who live with the right teachings of their parents deeply

in their hearts and remember them receive the following blessings.

12

The right teachings given by your parents will guide you on the right path.

The correct teachings given by my parents play a role in protecting my mind and heart

whether I am asleep or awake.

The right counsel from our parents keeps us from going the wrong way and protects us.

13

Another chapter of the book of Proverbs also talks about what children should not do.

¡°Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.¡±

(Proverbs 23:22)

As they get older, some people do the wrong thing to ignore their parents.

The Bible instructs us not to do that.

14

Jesus had the same childhood as you.

Jesus is the Son of God, but He came to this earth as God.

Jesus' knowledge and abilities are incomparably high with his physical parents.

He is superior to anyone else in the world.

15

Even such Jesus never acted to ignore his parents.

¡°Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them.

But his mother treasured all these things in her heart.¡± (Luke 2:51)

Jesus showed himself to obey his parents.

This is a command that we too should imitate Jesus and obey our parents.

16

The book of Proverbs writes a terrifying word of warning about what will happen to those

who ignore the correct teachings of their parents.

¡°The eye that mocks a father, that scorns obedience to a mother, will be pecked out by

the ravens of the valley, will be eaten by the vultures.¡± (Proverbs 30:17)

This is a terrifying example of the difficulties of a person who carelessly laughs at his father

or ignores his mother and disobeys his words. Through the Bible verses, God tells us that he

hates people who carelessly about their parents.

17

It is also good to give gifts and words of thanks to parents on Parents' Sunday.

But the greatest gift is to practice the words of the book of Proverbs you have learned today.

You must be a person who carves out and puts into practice the right teachings of your parents.

You must be a person who respects and exalts them with a consistent heart even after their

age increases. Anyone who obeys this Word will live a life of great success from God.
