Let's Give Real Thanks to God
|
2
|
|
[Isaiah 42 : 5]
This is what God the LORD says -
he who created the heavens and stretched them out,
who spread out the earth and all
that comes out of it, who gives breath to its people,
and life to those who walk on it:

|
|
Today, we would like to think together about
what things we should thank God for.
In 1 Thessalonians 5:18, the Bible says, ¡°give
thanks in all circumstances¡±
|
4
|
|
When the first New Testament
was written, it was written in Greek.
Let's read this Bible verse in
the first recorded Greek as well.
?¥í ¥ð¥á¥í¥ó? ¥å?¥ö¥á¥ñ¥é¥ò¥ó¥å?¥ó¥å·
EN FANTI EUKARISTEITE
~(In) (all circumstances) (give thanks)
|
5
|
|
The Greek word translated ¡°give thanks¡± in the
Bible is ¡°eukaristeite¡±.
It is said that this Greek word has a great
hidden meaning.
It is said that the Greek-speaking people used
this word to express special [thanks to God.]
|
6
|
|
So the hidden meaning of this phrase is
¡°Give thanks to God in all things and in all
circumstances.¡±
Today, let's consider why we should thank God
in everything we do and in all circumstances.
|
7
|
|
The first reason is precisely
stated in Ephesians 2:8.
[For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith
- and this is not from yourselves,
it is the gift
of God (Ephesians 2:8)]
It is because the Lord has given us salvation as a
gift to enter the eternal heaven.
|
8
|
|
Heaven cannot be bought with money.
Even if you have power, you cannot have it.
It is not something you can get by studying
well and passing the exam.
|
9
|
|
Only those who have received salvation as a
gift from God can enter the kingdom of heaven.
We have already received salvation as a gift
through faith in Jesus.
All of us have already become citizens of
Heaven and possessors of Heaven.
|
10
|
|
Nothing can
take away the gift of salvation that God has given us.
It doesn't
matter if we are poor.
It doesn't
matter if you are someone who is not particularly good at anything.
Salvation is not something that I have gained
by doing something well.
Therefore, those who believe in this fact will
be grateful no matter what happens.
|
11
|
|
Another reason why we should thank God for everything.
It is stated in Isaiah 42:5
[This is what God the LORD says -
he who created the heavens and stretched them out,
who
spread out the earth and all that comes out of it, who gives breath to its
people,
and
life to those who walk on it:(Isaiah 42:5)]
God is the One who gave all nature on this earth for us.
God has given us the ability to breathe and live with life.
|
12
|
|
The proudest people are those who do not thank
God for all this.
God brought ten plagues on Egypt through Moses.
Through the ten plagues, God asserts human life
and proves that He is in control of all nature.
|
13
|
|
God caused the
Egyptians to turn the Nile River,
which they
considered to be a place of abundance and sacred, to blood in an instant.
He brought the frogs from the water to the
ground and made the land overflow with swarms
of flies. The lice tormented everyone.
|
14
|
|
He moved a huge swarm of locusts, causing them
to devour all their crops.
The Egyptians were unable to lead a normal life
during the period of God's calamity.
Insects and worms on this earth must also be in
the order established by God to show that human life works normally.
|
15
|
|
God made hail rain from heaven. He also made
the day disappear in Egypt.
He hid the sun and made the Egyptians live in
darkness without daylight for days and days.
The nature of the world is also moving
according to the order established by God.
He was showing what happens when God breaks
that order.
|
16
|
|
The last plague
upon Egypt, which ignored God's warning, was to take away the lives of
firstborn humans and animals. In one night, the firstborn son and the first
beasts of every Egyptian
household,
including King Pharaoh, died.
However, the firstborn of the Israelites'
families who put blood on the doorposts protected them. Without God's
permission, no one could breathe and no one could sustain life.
|
17
|
|
It is the grace of God that we can breathe
today.
It is God's grace that we can live our daily
lives with life.
We need to know that morning and night, and
nature moving according to God's order,
are all possible because of God's grace. A
person who has faith who knows this can be thankful
for the grace that God gives no matter what
happens.
|
18
|
|
Today is seasonally observed as <Wheat Harvest Thanksgiving
Day>.
Let's give thanks to God who has given us breath and life over the
past 6 months.
Let us gather our hearts and
give thanks to God for moving the air, the sun and nature in an
orderly way so that we can
live.
I hope that we will become the
bearers of faith who can give thanks to God in all circumstances
we are given.
