Enoch Walked
with God
|
2
|
|
[Hebrews 11:5]
By faith Enoch was taken from
this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found,
because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as
one who pleased God.

The
Bible records many people who had beautiful faith. Among them, there are two
people
who
ascended to heaven without experiencing death just as Jesus ascended to
heaven.
|
4
|
|
One of them is the prophet
Elijah. The prophet Elijah goes to warn the idolatrous
King Ahab, who has
forsaken God.
[Now Elijah the Tishbite, from Tishbe in
Gilead, said to Ahab,
¡°As the Lord, the God of Israel, lives, whom
I serve, there will be neither dew nor
rain in the next few years except at my
word.¡±] (1 Kings 17:1)
As
Elijah warned, it did not rain in the land of Israel for a whopping 3 years
and 6 months
from that day.

|
|
The
prophet Elijah waged a prayer war with 850 prophets of Baal and Asherah on
Mount Carmel.
It
was a prayer war that proved that the God who sends fire from heaven is the
true God.
God
answered Elijah's prayer and sent fire from heaven. God made Elijah a great
victory in that war.

|
|
God
gave a special gift to the prophet Elijah, who was faithful to God.
It
was to take him to heaven without experiencing his death.
The
prophet Elijah ascended to heaven in the sight of his disciple Elisha.

|
|
There
is another person who ascended to heaven without dying.
This
man's name is ¡®Enoch¡¯. In the order of people recorded in Genesis,
Enoch
is the 7th person including Adam.

Enoch was born when his father, Jared, was 162 years old.
He lived in those days incomparably longer than he does
now.
The Bible records that Enoch's father, Jared, lived to be
962 years old.
[When
Jared had lived 162 years, he became the father of Enoch. And after he became
the
father of Enoch, Jared lived 800 years and
had other sons and daughters. Altogether,
Jared lived 962 years, and then he died.]
(Genesis 5:18-20)
|

|
|
When
Enoch was 65 years old, he had Methuselah.
Enoch's
son Methuselah holds the record of the longest-lived man in the Bible.
Enoch's
son Methuselah lived to be 969 years old.
|
10
|
|
In
those days when he was over 900 years old, Enoch lived a short life.
He
gave birth to Methuselah at the age of 65, and lived another 300 years, and
had children.
Enoch
lived 365 years on this earth.
|
11
|
|
The Bible tells us that
the 300 years that Enoch lived after the birth of Methuselah was a special
life.
[When
Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah.
And after he became the
father of Methuselah, Enoch walked with God 300 years
and had other sons and
daughters.] (Genesis 5:21-22)
The Bible records that
Enoch walked with God for 300 years.
|
12
|
|
God gave a great gift to
Enoch, who walked with God for 300 years.
[Enoch
walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.]
(Genesis 5:24)
God
allowed Enoch to ascend to heaven without seeing death.
|
13
|
|
The
meaning of walking with God is that he clearly believed in and depended on God
even
though he could not see it. So Enoch walked with God all his life without
leaving him.

The New Testament book of
Hebrews explains the life of Enoch in words that we can
understand well.
[By faith Enoch was taken from
this life, so that he did not experience death;
he could not be found, because God had
taken him away.
For before he was taken, he was commended
as one who pleased God.] ((Hebrews 11:5)
The
Bible testifies that Enoch walked with God by faith and lived a life that was
pleasing
to God.
|
15
|
|
The book of Hebrews goes
on to say that the secret to walking with God and pleasing
God is faith.
[And
without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him
must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek
him.] ((Hebrews 11:6)
|
16
|
|
The first of the secrets is that you must
believe that God really exists.
Second,
the Bible tells us that we must believe that God is a good God who rewards
those
who
seek Him.
|
17
|
|
Enoch,
a man just like us, lived with this belief for 300 years.
He
was conscious of the fact that God was right by his side no matter what he
did,
and
he lived by obedience to his faith. Enoch was a man of God who acted
according to the
good
will of God by faith.
|
18
|
|
Like Enoch, we too must
live a life of walking with God.
As children of God, God is
not far away. He is with us.
God the Holy Spirit within
us teaches us that fact every moment.
We need to be conscious of
the fact that God is with us at every moment and always depend on Him.
You must pray to him in
his faith. If he prays, God will help him.
He guides us on the path that pleases God without going
against the will of God. In the coming week, I hope that we will become all
friends who walk with God like Enoch with clear and sure faith.
