Moses Meets God on Mount Horeb
|
2
|
|
[Exodus 3:10]
¡°So now, go. I am sending you to
Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt.¡±¡±
|
3
|
|
Moses
lived a special life.
He
lived as the son of a princess in the palace of Egypt until he was 40 years
old.
Moses,
who was a nation of Israel, killed the Egyptians who were tormenting the
Israelites,
and
became a murderer in an instant and fled to the Wilderness of Midian.
|
4
|
|
There he married Zipporah, the
daughter of Jethro, and started a family.
And he lived herding sheep
until he was 80.
As usual, Moses drove the
sheep to the west of the wilderness to feed them.
|
5
|
|
When
Moses brought his sheep to Mount Horeb, he saw a strange sight before his
eyes.
A
bush caught fire, but the tree did not burn out.
God
had appeared in flames to meet Moses.
|
6
|
|
Moses,
unaware of that fact, was so amazed at the scene.
¡°How
can a tree catch fire and not burn?¡± ' he said and walked closer to the tree.
God
was watching Moses approaching him.
|
7
|
|
When
Moses came near the tree, God called him.
¡°Moses,
Moses!¡± Moses heard his name being called from among the trees and responded
reflexively. ¡°I am here.¡±
|
8
|
|
God
continued to speak to Moses.
¡°Don¡¯t
come any closer. Take off your shoes, and you are now standing on holy
ground.
I
am the God of your ancestors.
I
am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.¡±
|
9
|
|
When
Moses heard the voice of God, he was very afraid.
Moses
hastily covered his face.
God
told Moses to go back to Egypt and rescue the Israelites.
And now the cry of the Israelites has reached me, and I have
seen the way the Egyptians are oppressing them. So now, go. I am sending you
to Pharaoh to bring my people the Israelites out of Egypt." [Exodus
3:9-10]
|
10
|
|
Although
he received God's command, Moses could not obey.
And
he told God his heart. ¡°What if the people of Israel do not believe or obey
me?
What
if they say, 'The Lord has not appeared to you'?"
Even
if he told them that he had met God, he was still afraid because
he
thought there was no way to prove it unless the Israelites believed him.
|
11
|
|
God saw this and said to Moses. ¡°Throw the
staff that is in his hand to the ground.¡±
Moses threw the staff he was holding to the
ground.
At that moment, the staff became a snake.
Moses was startled and ran away from the
snake.
|
12
|
|
God
said to Moses, ¡°Stretch out your hand and grab the serpent's tail.¡±
The
moment Moses grabbed the serpent's tail, the serpent became a staff again.
God
said again. ¡°Now put his hand inside his robe.¡±
Moses
put his hand inside his robe.
|
13
|
|
When Moses took his hand out of his robe,
his hand was stricken with leprosy and turned white.
God has spoken again. ¡°Now put his hand
back inside the garment.¡±
Moses put his hand inside the garment again
and took it out, and the leprosy of his hand was healed, and it returned to
normal.
|
14
|
|
Moses
did not obey God's word even after experiencing these two miracles.
Moses
made another excuse. ¡°I don¡¯t know how to speak.
I
am slow and do not know how to speak well.¡± God spoke to Moses again.
¡°Who
made man's mouth? I am Jehovah.
Go
now, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what to say.¡±
|
15
|
|
Even
though he heard that God would be with him, Moses did not obey.
He
said, ¡°Please send a capable man to Pharaoh,¡± and he insisted that he could
not.
However,
God did not give up and solved the part that Moses was having a hard time
with.
¡°Your
brother, Aaron, who speaks well, is coming here.
Tell
Aaron what I am telling you, and Aaron will speak for you.¡±
|
16
|
|
God
prepared everything so that Moses could no longer make excuses.
And
then he commanded Moses again. ¡°Take your staff and go. Take it and perform a
miracle.¡±
Then
Moses obeyed God's word. In obedience to God's call, Moses returned to Egypt
and became a great leader to rescue the Israelites from Egypt.
|
17
|
|
Even Moses, who was speechless and fearful,
became a great leader and pleased God when God
was with him. Anyone with whom God is with can
be used like Moses.
Anyone who believes in Jesus and is saved has
received the blessing that God is with them.
You must be a person of faith who believes in
the God who is with you and obeys His word to give joy to God.
