Message to the Church of Thyatira

2

[Revelation 2:19]

¡°I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance,

and that you are now doing more than you did at first.¡±

3

Jesus appeared among the seven golden candlesticks and spoke words of praise and rebuke

to the seven churches in Asia Minor.

Today, we will look at what Jesus said about the church of Thyatira,

the fourth of the seven churches.

4

When Jesus spoke to the church in Thyatira, his eyes shone like flames.

He had feet like shiny bronze and said,

5

The area where the church of Thyatira was located was full of idolatry.

The people there worshiped a sun god named Apollo-Tyrimnos.

It was also a zealous area for imperial worship, which worshiped the Roman emperors.

6

Thyatira was an area where commerce was prosperous.

Merchants formed cooperatives and operated systematically.

Merchants even have a special tradition of gathering together to dine as sacrifices to idols.

7

It was difficult in itself to believe in Jesus in this Thyatira region, and it was possible only

if we were prepared for great difficulties. Jesus praised the church in Thyatira,

which kept the faith despite difficult circumstances.
¡°I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance,

and that you are now doing more than you did at first.¡±(Revelation 2:19)

8

First, Jesus commended the church in Thyatira for having the good contents of faith.

The members of Thyatira Church had love and faith.

They did not lose their good faith in serving others and persevering through difficulties.

Jesus said they had such good faith.

9

The second time Jesus praised the church in Thyatira was his unchanging faith.

Even the good faith you have in the beginning is easy to change over time.

However, the members of the Thyatira Church developed more and more as time went on.

Jesus commended their faith that did not change over time.

10

However, the church in Thyatira, who had such good faith, was also rebuked by Jesus.
¡°Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols.¡±(Revelation 2:20)

In the church of Thyatira, Jesus rebuked them for leaving a woman who called herself

a prophet and disturbed the church.

11

Originally, Jezebel was the wife of King Ahab, the king of northern Israel.

When she became queen of Israel, Jezebel forced the Israelites to actively worship Baal.

The Israelites, who were tempted by Jezebel, turned away from God by worshiping the idol Baal.

12

There were people like Jezebel in the Thyatira church who seduced them with their wrong faith. They led the saints away from the true Word of God.

They also encouraged people to eat things sacrificed to idols and commit unclean sins

that Christians should not do.

13

Jesus told those who disturb the church in Thyatira to repent.

Jesus tells them to stop what they are doing, repent and come back.

He warned that if they did not turn after giving them a chance to repent,

they would be severely punished.

14

He also warned those who succumbed to their temptations and forsook the right way

of faith with dreadful words.

[I will put to death all who follow her teachings, so that the whole church may know that

I am the one who searches the hearts and minds of men. I will repay you according to

what you have done.]

He said that if they did not repent, they would punish them for the sins they

committed through temptation.

15

However, there were those who did not fall into false temptations and kept their faith.

Jesus also told them what their reward would be if they kept that faith until the end.
¡°Only hold on to what you have until I come. To him who overcomes and does my will

to the end, I will give authority over the nations¡°(Revelation 2:25~26)

16

Jesus knew how the members of the Thyatira Church live their faith.

He greatly praised the saints for maintaining the right faith without being shaken even in

difficult circumstances.

Jesus promised them an incredible reward if they kept their faith to the end.

17

Jesus sees all of our religious life just like the Thyatira church members.

He knows everything we try to do with the Word of God.

Jesus knows that we are living the wrong life of faith.

The Holy Spirit allows us to turn from our mistakes and repent.

He must repent and turn back without delay when the Holy Spirit enlightens me.

I hope, We must remember the love of Jesus who loved us even to the point of death,

and strive to become the children of faith that are praised and praised by fully putting

into practice His teachings.
