Joash Restored the Temple

2

[2 Chronicles 24:13]

The men in charge of the work were diligent, and the repairs progressed under them.

They rebuilt the temple of God according to its original design and reinforced it.

3

King Joash of Judah became king when he was 7 years old.

The priest Jehoiada was by his side and helped young Joash to rule the kingdom according

to God's word. As time passed, King Joash also became an adult.

4

King Joash was heartbroken when he saw that the temple of God was too old and worn out.

In Judah, the temple is the most important place for people to offer sacrifices to God and listen to God's voice. Such a temple was in a very old and unsightly condition.

5

Joash decided to rebuild the temple of God.

Repairing the temple requires a lot of money and takes a long time.

Although it was a difficult task, he proceeded with the repair of the temple because it was a

right thing that was pleasing to God.

6

Joash summoned the priests and Levites working in the temple.

And he commanded them to collect the money that the people gave to the temple and repair

the temple.

¡°You go to the villages of Judah, and gather year after year the money that all the Israelites

give to the temple of the Lord. Take it and repair the temple of God. Do it right now.¡±

7

But even after a long time, the temple was not repaired.

The priests and Levites did not obey King Joash's orders.

They did not value the renewal of the temple, so the temple was still in its old state.

8

Joash called Jehoiada the priest and the priests and said,

"Why aren't you repairing the temple? From now on, you should not take money from the people, but let them pay for the repair of the temple yourself." Joash did not give up on repairing the temple and pushed ahead with the repair of the temple more strongly than before.

9

He ordered that a large treasury be built at the entrance to the temple.

The Levites proclaimed to the people to go and bring an offering for the repair of God's temple.

When the people heard this news, they came up to the temple with a happy heart with donations for the repair of the temple.

10

Many people participated in the donation for the repair of God's temple.

Officials and people began to donate to the treasury with joy.

The treasury quickly filled up.

11

The Levites take the treasury box full and bring it to the king's servants and the high priest.

After checking that the treasury box was full, the officials collected the money in a designated place. After repeating this several times, I was able to raise enough money to repair the temple.

12

Joash and Jehoada gave the money to those in charge of the temple construction.

The people in charge of the construction of the temple used the money to buy the materials

needed for the repair of the temple.

Then they gathered professional workers and began to repair the temple of God.

13

The workers who participated in the repair of the temple did their best to repair the temple.

The temple of God began to find its own shape little by little.

Finally, the restoration of the temple was completed.

14

The people in charge of the temple construction brought the remaining money to King Joash

and Jehoiada after repairing the temple.

The offerings offered by the people were more than enough for the repair of the temple.

The two of them used the money to make things necessary for offering sacrifices to God.

15

With this, all the things necessary for offering sacrifices to God were newly created.

Through Joash, God's temple was completely repaired and cleaned.

Jehoiada the priest offered burnt offerings every day in the temple of God.

The people of Judah also offered sacrifices to God through the restored temple and received

God's grace.

16

Joash is the king who reformed the temple so that Judah could serve God properly.

He did his best without giving up on what is right that is pleasing to God.

He did not give up because of those who listened to his orders and did not work.

We, too, should act like Joash when God is pleased and we do what is right.

17

Today is the Sunday commemorating the Reformation.

In the Middle Ages, there was a time when the church did not follow the Bible correctly.

At that time there were people who acted like Joash.

There were people who did not give up even though they faced difficulties trying to bring

the church back to the Word of God.

Because of them, we are able to keep the right faith today.
