Jesus Overcame Satan's
Temptations
2
[Matthew 4:10-11]
Jesus said to him, "Away from
me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God,
and serve him only.'"
Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended
him.

Jesus
appeared in the Jordan River. He went to John, who was baptizing there, and
told him to baptize Jesus himself. John refused, saying, ¡°I need to be
baptized by Jesus, but did Jesus come to me instead?¡±
4
In
the words of John, Jesus said this. ¡°For now, let us do what we want, and it
is right for us to do this so that we may fulfill all righteousness.¡± John
baptized Jesus in obedience to the words of Jesus who said that he baptized
Jesus was the right thing to accomplish the righteousness of God.
5
Jesus
was baptized by John. As he came up from the water, something amazing
happened.
The Holy Spirit descended from
heaven in the form of a dove and descended on Jesus' head.
6
From heaven, God spoke with a loud voice.
¡°This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased.¡± God the Father and God
the Holy Spirit have proved that Jesus is the true Messiah who came to save
us.
7
After
being baptized, Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit into the wilderness.
There he prayed without eating for
40 days. Jesus fasted and prayed before doing God's work.
8
After
40 days of fasting and prayer, Satan came to Jesus. Satan knew that Jesus had
not eaten anything for 40 days. Satan used his hunger to tempt Jesus.
9
Said Satan. ¡°If you are truly the Son
of God, please command this stone to become bread.¡± Satan tempted Jesus to
use his power for God as a selfish means to satisfy his hunger.
10
Jesus answered Satan with the Word of
God recorded in the Old Testament.
[Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone,
but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"(Matthew 4:4)]
Jesus knew all Satan's schemes, defeated him with the word of God, and
overcame temptation.
11
Satan,
who failed the first test, took Jesus and went up to the top of the temple.
The devil tempted Jesus the second
time and said, ¡°If you are the Son of God, jump out of here.¡± After saying
these words, the devil said, ¡°The scriptures say that 'He will command his angels
concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will
not strike your foot against a stone.' He tested Jesus with the words of the
Old Testament.
12
But Jesus spoke another word of God to
Satan.
[Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your
God to the test.'"
(Matthew
4:7)]
Satan pointed out the error of daring to test God. This time Jesus defeated
Satan's attacks with the Word of God.
13
Satan
did not give up and took Jesus to a high mountain. Satan showed all the
kingdoms and glory of the world before Jesus. And he said to Jesus, ¡°I will
give you all this if you will bow down and worship me.¡±
14
Jesus
spoke strongly toward Satan.
Jesus said to him
["Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God,
and serve him nly.'" (Matthew 4:10)]
Satan tempted him to give him power over the whole world if he worshiped him
instead of God.
15
But again,
Jesus overcame that temptation with the word of God.
Satan could no longer tempt Jesus
and left. Angels came and exalted Jesus, who overcame Satan's temptation, and
ministered to him.
16
After
fasting and praying for 40 days, Satan tempted Jesus three times as he tried
to start the work of God. However, Jesus did not fall into Satan's temptation
and was victorious.
The secret that Jesus overcame all Satan's temptations was the word of God.
Satan's temptation had no power in front of God's word.
17
Satan continues to test us who are children of God even
now.
When we
encounter Satan's temptations, we must fight with the word of God, just as
Jesus did. Those who are armed with the Word of God can overcome all
temptations of Satan. In order to become a person armed with the Word of God,
we must strive to read the Word of God every day.
I hope
that you will come to church every Sunday and do your best to learn and
master the Word of God.
