Let the innocent first stone
at her!

When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to
them,
"If any one of you is without sin, let him be
the first to throw a stone at her."

Jesus
often visited the Mount of Olives while He was on this earth in the flesh.
Today,
Jesus
visited the Mount of Olives. When Jesus did God's work, he always prayed and
did it.

|
Early the
next morning, Jesus came down from the Mount of Olives and headed for the
temple. When they saw Jesus in the temple courtyard, many people gathered.
Jesus
told the people gathered there about the mystery of the kingdom of God.
|
5
|
|
While Jesus was teaching the people, the scribes
and Pharisees came to Jesus.
They dragged a
woman away like a criminal.
They put this
woman in front of the gathered people in the courtyard of her temple.
|

|
|
The men
who brought the woman started talking to Jesus.
"Teacher, this woman
committed adultery and she was caught on the spot. In the Mosaic Law, Moses
commanded us to stone these women to death. But what will you say?"
|
7
|
|
At that time, the scribes and Pharisees were always
dissatisfied that people believed and followed Jesus more than they did. They
were people who tried to embarrass Jesus if given the opportunity. Even
today, they are trying to tempt Jesus by taking hold of this woman.
|

|
|
No matter
what answer Jesus gives, they can attack Him. If Jesus told them that they
should stone this woman to death according to the law of Moses, they would
say that Jesus was a cruel man who didn't usually live up to the love he was
talking about.
|
9
|
|
Conversely,
if Jesus says that this woman should not be killed, they will say that Jesus
has broken the law of Moses, that is, the word of God.
In fact, the Old Testament
tells us to punish those who commit adultery.
[If a man happens to meet in a town a virgin pledged to be married
and he sleeps with her, you shall take both of them to the gate of that town
and stone them to death-the girl because she was in a town and did not scream
for help, and the man because he violated another man's wife. You must purge
the evil from among you.(Deuteronomy 22:23-24)]

They think
that they can attack Jesus no matter what answer Jesus gives, so they bring
this woman to Jesus and ask for an answer. Receiving their question, Jesus
did not answer their words, but bent down and began to write on the ground
with his finger.
They kept saying to Jesus
who was writing on the ground, asking him to answer him without ceasing.
|
11
|
|
Finally, Jesus raised his body. And he told them.
¡°He who
has never sinned among you, let him first throw her stone at this woman.¡±
After
saying these words, Jesus bent down again and was writing on the ground.
|
12
|
|
After Jesus
said, ¡°He that has never sinned among you, let him first throw a stone at
her.¡± For there can be no one among them who has not sinned at least once.
Because no one can say that they have not sinned before God.
|

|
|
The
people who had gathered to punish this woman began to leave one by one. They
left the place in order from the older ones to the younger ones. After a
while, there was no one left who had condemned the adulterous woman there.

The woman
answered Jesus' question.
¡°Lord, there is none,¡±
Jesus said to the woman again. ¡°Neither do I
condemn you. So you shall sin no more.¡±
Even Jesus, who
was without sin, did not punish this woman for her sins, but forgave her.
|
16
|
|
This woman
received the grace of being raised from death because of her sins through
Jesus.
We too are people who have received the same grace
as this woman.
By dying on the cross for all our sins, we have
received new life and received the grace to become children of God.
|
17
|
|
Through
today's message, like the scribes and Pharisees, blaming others with harsh
words or judging their sins is something we should not do.
Just as
Jesus forgave our sins, we too should live by forgiving the sins of others.
We also need to remember that Jesus told women not
to sin again so that we can lead a righteous life that does not sin.
