Jesus Washed the Disciples' Feet

2

"You call me 'Teacher' and 'Lord,' and rightly so, for that is what I am.
Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet,
you also should wash one another's feet.

(John 13:13-14)

3

Jesus is God who came to this earth in a human body to save us.
Every single thing Jesus did while He was on this earth had a meaning.
Today, I would like to think about one thing Jesus did when he finished all the work God had entrusted to him and there was only a short time left before he would return to the kingdom of heaven.

4

When Jesus was on this earth, he was always with the 12 disciples he chose.
Jesus loved his disciples with an unchanging heart to the end.
That same day He had dinner with His disciples.

5

Jesus, who was having dinner with his disciples, got up from the spot.
And he took off his outer garment and put it beside him.
And he took his towel and put it around his waist.
Then Jesus poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet.

6

In the area of Israel where Jesus lived, people always washed their hands and feet after going out and coming back. Usually, people in a low position, such as slaves or servants, wrapped a towel around their waists and poured water into a basin to wash the feet of their master or guest.

7

By the way, if that's the case, it's right for the disciples to wash Jesus' feet. Conversely,
Jesus tied a towel around his waist, washed the disciples' feet one by one, and wiped their feet with the towel.
Jesus humbled himself and washed the feet of his disciples.

8

It was time to wash Simon Peter's feet. Peter couldn't understand why Jesus washes his disciple's feet, so he said to Jesus: ¡°Jesus, how are you going to wash my feet?¡±

9

Jesus said this to Peter's words. ¡°Peter, you will not understand what I am doing now,
but you will understand later.¡±
And Jesus, like his other disciples, tried to wash Peter's feet.

10

But Peter refused and said to Jesus. "No. You can never wash my feet.¡±
Peter said firmly that he could not allow his teacher, Jesus, to wash his feet.

11

Upon hearing this, Jesus said something shocking to Peter.
¡°Peter, if I don¡¯t wash your feet now, you will have nothing to do with me.¡±
Peter was surprised to hear that if he refused to let Jesus wash his feet now, he would have nothing to do with Jesus.

12

Peter's attitude changed when he was told that he would become someone who had nothing to do with Jesus.
¡°Jesus, then wash not only my feet, but also my hands and head.¡±
For Peter, it was an unimaginable and terrifying thing to become someone who had nothing to do with Jesus. So he said to wash not only his feet, but also his hands and head.

13

After hearing Peter's request to wash not only his feet, but also his hands and head,
Jesus said ¡°People who have already taken a bath need only wash their feet.
That person is clean all over his body.
Therefore you are clean. But not all of you are clean.¡± he said.

14

An amazing secret is hidden in the words of Jesus, ¡°A person who takes a bath only needs to wash his feet.¡±
Those who believe in Jesus as their savior and receive Him are forgiven of all sins that prevent them from going to heaven.
The moment we are saved, our sins are washed clean as if we were taking a bath.
From that moment on, the Holy Spirit dwells in the person and helps him overcome sin.

15

However, just because a person is saved does not mean that he or she does not sin.
As they go through life, they commit small sins that do not put them into practice according to God's Word. Even if you take a bath, just like washing your feet after going out, Jesus told his disciples to pray to God for the sins they committed that day and receive forgiveness every day and cleanse them.

16

Those who believe in Jesus with an honest heart and are saved hate sin the most.
If someone claims to be saved but enjoys sinning, his salvation is false.
However, even if he is a saved person, he does not act according to God's will contrary to his heart and commits sins. Each time, we must remember Jesus who washed the feet of the disciples and ask God for forgiveness.

17

Another meaning of Jesus washing the feet of his disciples is a command to live a humble life. Those who have received true salvation should not be greedy to be exalted by others.
We must strive to become people who humble ourselves following Jesus.
Also, Jesus exalts the person who humbles himself by following Jesus and makes what he does succeed.
I hope that all of you will become people who humble yourself according to the practices Jesus showed you and become people who are exalted by Jesus.
-----
[For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. (Matthew 23:12)]
