Jesus Set an Example of Honoring Parents

2

Bible verse : Proverbs 23:25 (NIV)

May your father and mother be glad; may she who gave you birth rejoice!

3

Let's read the Proverbs we read today again in simple words.
¡°Make your parents happy, please the one who gave birth to you.¡±

4

The Ten Commandments command like this.
["Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you. (Exodus 20:12)]

5

God said that those who honor their parents will be able to live a successful life on earth. Those who want to live a successful God-given life on earth must be respectful in their words and actions toward their parents, respect them, and act with the utmost courtesy.

6

Jesus came to this earth to save us. Jesus, who is God, came to this earth through a low and humble stable in Bethlehem. Jesus, who came to this earth in human flesh, had two parents, Joseph and Mary.

7

Jesus spent his childhood in the town of Nazareth.
That is why in the Bible Jesus is called Jesus of Nazareth.

8

The Gospel of Luke in the Bible records the appearance of Jesus as a child.
[Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them.
But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. (Luke 2:51)]

9

The Bible records that Jesus was a child who was good at obeying the words of his parents. Jesus was also very zealous in obeying the Word of God. As Jesus grew in stature, he was loved by God. He was also loved by those around him.

[And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.

(Luke 2:52)]

10

Joseph, the father of Jesus, was a carpenter. A carpenter's job is hard work that requires physical effort. Another Bible tells us that Jesus served and helped his father Joseph when he was a carpenter.

11

There was a time when Jesus taught the Word to people in Nazareth, his hometown. At that time, those who gathered there and received the teachings of Jesus say this about him.

[Isn't this the carpenter? Isn't this Mary's son (Mark 6:3)]
Neighbors are telling us how diligently Jesus helped his father in his work.

12

Jesus did his best to honor his mother. He was at the time when Jesus was crucified to forgive our sins. At the foot of the cross, the beloved mother of Jesus and his disciple John came and mourned.

13

Jesus was heartbroken when he saw his mother grieving in the midst of the great suffering of the cross.

Jesus said to his beloved disciple, John, ¡°Behold, your mother.¡±

This is the word asking John to take care of his mother. It is said that from that time on, as Jesus had said, John treated Mary with great care.

14

Also, while Jesus lived on this earth, he completely obeyed the will of God the Father. The night before he was crucified, the Lord prayed to God late into the night in the Garden of Gethsemane.

15

"My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me. But not my will, but yours." Jesus obeyed God the Father even to the point of death.

16

We who believe in Jesus and become God's children must resemble Jesus. Just as Jesus obeyed his parents, we must also obey our parents. Also, just as Jesus honored his parents, we must do the same.
We must strive to be people who make our mothers and fathers happy.

17

As Jesus grew taller, God loved him more. He was also loved by those around him. We who believe in Jesus must also become people who are praised and loved by God and the people around us.
God takes notice of those who respect his parents and elders and exalts them.
